January News

We are off to a great start for 2010 in Room 602!  After our first week back after break,

Weeks in Review

In Reading, we have started working on reading and comprehension strategies for nonfiction.  So far we have covered comparing and contrasting fiction and nonfiction reading, and looking for the main ideas and supporting details in small sections of text.

In Writing, we have started a unit on writing expert books.  Last week we began learning some strategies for brainstorming things that we are experts about.

In Math, we began our focus on using patterns and multiples for learning basic facts, and also started to memorize or 2s, 5s, 10s, 9s, 0s, and 1s.

In Social Studies, we stated learning about Danville and California during rancho times and early settlers.

Looking Ahead

In Reading we will continue to work on nonfiction reading strategies with a focus on using pictures, diagrams, charts, and headings to aid in comprehehnsion.

In writing we will begin the process of choosing a topic and drafting our expert books.

In Language Arts we will be reviewing homophones, begin working on subjects and predicates of sentences, and learn about types of sentences.

In Math we will continue working on knowing and memorizing our basic multiplication facts and learning about division and how it relates to multiplication.
