Classroom News

Math:  We have been working on understanding addition and subtraction.  We have begun our timed  tests every week to check for memorization.  We are off to a great start, as we make our way up to facts for 20's by the end of first grade!

Reader's Workshop:  We are continuing to learn about choosing a just right book, taking good care of our books, using strategies when we come to  tricky words, reading alone and with a partner, thinking about and asking questions about a story, and retelling a story we have read in our own words.

Writer's Workshop:  We have been working on writing personal narratives about our activities in and out of  school.  Before writing a personal narrative, we make a movie in our mind about a small moment and think about the beginning, middle and end.  We share our ideas with our partner, and point to a page of our three page packet to plan what we will write about.  Next, we draw a quick sketch on each page of our packet to hold our ideas.  After that we write words to match our sketches of the beginning, middle, and end.  Last, we reread our story to see if it makes sense and we add more details, to the words and to the pictures.  We will choose pieces of our writing to fancy up and publish- very exciting!

WE LOVE BOOKS!

We visit the LIBRARY every other week on Tuesdays to check out books.  Please return books by the Friday before our visit.
