Curriculum

Homework consists of the following components:

Math: Interactive Homework Student Books (black cover) are the source for math homework. Please review the calendar to see which lessons we will do during each week, and do a corresponding practice and/or reteaching sheet for that lesson. These homework sheets will support the concepts learned in class that week. Please review, tear out,  and attach completed sheets along with other homework and include in homework folder returned on Fridays. Please do not go ahead in the book! These pages will be most effective when aligned with concepts taught and practiced in class combined with the technology, manipulative and game components designed for each lesson. One sheet of your choice (practice or reteaching) for each lesson is expected.

Reading Comprehension : Weekly comprehension practice consists of high interest reading and strategy focus that is differentiated for your student’s current reading level. Some discussion and activity is included for parental participation in practicing these relevant skills. Thank you for working with your child on these skills and signing the sheets each week.

Spelling Sentence Practice: Each week the homework packet will have a copy of the spelling sentences. Please have your child practice writing these sentences along with a Thursday evening pretest paying particular attention to spelling and grammar. There will be a dictation quiz of these sentences on Fridays.

Independent Reading: Also included in the homework each week is independent reading practice. It is very important that the students are reading high interest, varied, “just-right” materials to strengthen comprehension and fluency skills. This is truly the time to instill the love and the habit of daily reading in your child.

Monthly Projects : These are assigned at the beginning of the month and usually due at the end of the month per the calendar. They are a collection of wonderful opportunities to expand and support our classroom social studies curriculum. It is our hope that you enjoy participating in these projects with your student and that having the month to complete them gives you some flexibility in your schedule as well.

Thank you to all parents for your time in assisting your child with assigned homework. Your support will make the homework a fun and effective means of supporting and enriching topics taught in the classroom setting. Please do not hesitate to discuss with your teacher any questions regarding homework assignments.

Feb. News

Hello Baldwin families!

The play was a smashing success and I'm so proud of all my little munchkins!  Their spirit of teamwork and creativity was somthing special indeed!  :)

Please note the inclusion of instructions regarding the Timeline, Flat Stanley, and Valentine's Day  projects due this month:

Timeline-Due ASAP so we can get to work on this 2nd grade standard.  Please remember that pictures must be spaced out to show the important times of your child's life (not 9 pictures of the day you went to Disneyland!).  Please label and date the back of each picture.  Also, these photos will not be returned.

Flat Stanley-Return paperwork no later than 2-26.  This ensures that the project is back in time for Open House.

Valentine's Day-Party 2-12 from 1:20-3:00.  Please have your child write a valentine for everyone in the class.  A class list has been provided.
