Welcome to Instrumental Music!

I am so excited about working with all of your children this year!  Our classes are alive with creative energy and it is a joy to see the excitement in your childrens' faces as they learn to play their instruments!

Feel free to contact me anytime if you have any questions regarding your child's progress.

Just a reminder- Our Winter Instrumental Concert is Jan. 26 at 7:00.  Students should arrive by 6:40 in order to get seated and ready to start on time.  Concert dress is black bottom/white top.  Your children have worked very hard and are excited to share their accomplishments.  I'm looking forward to seeing everyone at the concert.

Practicing assingments-Beginning band and strings

Students should practice 15-20 minutes at least 3 times a week.  This will enable them to progress and retain what they are learning in class.  Currently all wind players are working on correct embochure, reed placement on the mouthpiece (clarinets, and saxophones), and correct playing position.  They are working on their winter concert songs: Hot Cross Buns, Rolling Along, Jingle Bells and My Dreydl.  They will be learning 2 new notes next week and additional songs.

String students are working on correct playing position, finger placement on the D and A strings and reading the notes on the musical staff for the D and A strings.  They are now bowing and plucking on the D and A strings.  They should continue to use the straw for their "bowing lane" when practicing with the bow.  We will be selecting their concert pieces from the songs they have learned thus far.

Practicing Assignments-Advanced Band and Strings

Students should practice 15-20 minutes at least 3 times a week.  This will enable them to progress and retain what they are learning in class.

Band students are working on their pieces for the Winter Concert as well as beginning to learn their pieces for the Area Band Festival.  The clarinets are beginning to learn their high notes, so if you hear more "squawking" than usual, that's why.  They will perfect it, don't worry.  Just  be patient and support them as you always do.
